Odyssey Discovery Expeditions connect educators with the scientists, conservationists, communities, and research organizations exploring our planet. Through direct connections with working researchers, immersive field experiences, and firsthand exploration, educators return with new knowledge, powerful stories, and meaningful ways to bring science alive for their students.
Each Discovery is designed as an educator fellowship experience, supported through school partnerships, district funding, grants, and mission-aligned sponsors.

Flagship Discovery
Utqiagvik, Alaska
The flagship Odyssey Discovery experience. Educators journey to the Arctic to connect with researchers studying sea ice, permafrost, climate systems, and the communities whose knowledge shapes our understanding of this remarkable region.
Arctic Discovery is an Odyssey Discovery Educator Fellowship experience.
Alaska field Discovery
Kenai Peninsula, Alaska
An immersive Alaska science experience exploring glaciers, salmon watersheds, boreal forests, and the researchers studying rapid ecological change.

Future Odyssey Discovery experiences are being developed with scientists, conservationists, research organizations, and sponsoring partners. Examples may include Great Lakes Discovery, Amazon Discovery, Ocean Discovery, and other science-rich regions.
Each Discovery is offered as an Odyssey Discovery Educator Fellowship experience.
Why these places
Utqiagvik is the northernmost community in the United States — and one of the most studied places on Earth. NOAA, university researchers, and Iñupiat knowledge keepers all do their work here. The Kenai holds glaciers, salmon watersheds, and rapid ecological change all within a day's drive.
We choose Discovery regions where the science is significant, the scientists are willing to teach educators, and the community relationships already exist.

The program investment reflects scientific access, experience design, educator learning, field expertise, and long-term classroom impact — not simply travel costs.
Educators are not expected to fund participation out of pocket. Odyssey Discovery works with schools, districts, grants, foundations, and sponsors to expand access.
